Girls Varsity Falls to a Powerful Foxboro Team, Losing 29-54

Friday, January 24, 2025

As most teams (especially those in the Hockomock) know, it’s not easy going up against Foxboro. Back-to-back Massachusetts State Champions with a 6’3″ center and a guard who dominates the scoreboard, North knew what they were up against. However, the final score doesn’t reflect the pure toughness and strong effort that went into controlling the game as best they could. North ended the first quarter down 7-17. By the end of the third quarter it was 21-35. Foxboro then went on a big run, outscoring us 8-19 in the final quarter of the game. Our Red Rocketeers face the Warriors again on Valentine’s Day.

Honoring Mike Babul

Both Girls Varsity and JV wore black bands on their jerseys to honor the recent death of NAHS Class of 1996 alum, Mike Babul. Mike passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 30, 2024. During his high school career, Mike earned the Gatorade Player of the Year award for Massachusetts, as well as a spot on the National Parade All-American fourth team in his senior year. He continued his basketball career at the University of Massachusetts Amherst wearing number 23. Mike was a three-time A-10 All-Defensive Team member and a four-time Academic All-American. In addition, Mike was a much-loved and admired coach to so many.

If anyone is interested in helping support the Swarm AAU Basketball Program establish the Michael Babul Memorial Fund, which will provide educational scholarships, youth basketball program tuition assistance, coaching education, and raise awareness for heart health, there is an organized Go Fund Me.
