MIAA D2 Playoffs
North Fought a Hard Battle Against #2 Seed Dartmouth But Fell Short, 57-46
Thursday, February 27, 2025
Pretty sure #2 seed Dartmouth wasn’t expecting a battle when the schedule showed them matched up with #31 seed North Attleboro. But the Red Rocketeers came to play and showed no signs of backing down throughout all 4 quarters. North came as close as a 7 point deficit, however Dartmouth is home to Kat Cheesbro, one of the most prolific scorers in Massachusetts (to underscore that point, Cheesbro surpassed 2000 points over her high school career during last nights game) who finished with 40 points alone. Her teammates added the remaining points to overtake North Attleboro.
Though last night ended their playoff run, our girls made the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends who traveled the hour to watch them compete in the MIAA D2 playoffs very proud. Their grit, effort, and heart were on full display. They never gave up trying. The night ended in a bittersweet moment as it marked the final game for our 3 seniors. Captains Sam Sweeney and Maryellen Charette, who have been playing together since 6th grade Metro, were both visibly upset as the final buzzer sounded. Senior Izzy Milot was surrounded by teammates, everyone comforting one another as the end of this season and the end of this team became a reality. But as the saying goes: Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.
Best of luck to our graduating seniors and we’re looking forward to the future of Big Red Girls Basketball!
