North and Taunton went into the fourth quarter tied at 35 apiece. The Rocketeers put together a 16-7 run over the final eight minutes, including 6-of-8 at the line from Amelia Leighton, to pull the upset over the Kelley-Rex leaders and earning a big victory in their quest for a playoff spot. After an 11-11 first quarter, Leighton scored seven and Maryellen Charette had five to help North take a four-point lead into the locker room. The Tigers answered back in the third, with Chlesea Bousquet and Cali Melo each scoring four points, to even things up heading to the fourth. North coach Ashley Kepaa credited her team’s pressure defense for sparking the final run and pulling out the win. She said, “The girls were hustling and diving for every loose ball and our rotations were perfect. They started to believe in themselves and trusted in what they’ve learned all season long.” Charette led all scorers with 15 points, including a pair of threes. Leighton scored 13 off the bench, Katie Corsetti added nine, and Sam Sweeney and Ava Pratt both scored six. Pratt, who has moved into the starting lineup, also gave North a big boost on the defensive end. Bousquet led Taunton with 13 (nine in the second half), Melo finished with a dozen points, Taryn Campbell scored eight, and Jillian Doherty had seven. The Tigers dropped into a first-place tie with Franklin ahead of Monday’s visit of the Panthers to the Rabouin Field House.
