NORTH SCORES BACK-TO-BACK ROAD WINS, BEATS STOUGHTON 67-53

“The Rocketeers entered the game averaging less than 40 points per game, but nearly matched that total in the first half. After the Black Knights made some adjustments out of the locker room and cut the lead to as few as four points, North found its groove again to score 20 points in the fourth and run away with a 67-53 win. It’s the second win in a row for the Rocketeers, who now find themselves just a game behind Taunton in the Kelley-Rex standings.

Sam Sweeney came out firing at the start of the game. She drilled a three to put North in front and, after Caleigh Clark made it 5-3 for the Black Knights, Sweeney answered with a jumper, dished off an assist for a Katie Corsetti three that gave North a lead it never relinquished, and then took a couple of passes from Corsetti for buckets in the paint.

Behind Sweeney’s 11 points, Corsetti’s six, and a three from Uliana Malynka, North scored 20 in the first quarter and pushed the lead up to nine points after one.

Stoughton tried to battle back in the second. Leah McCarty (16 points and 13 rebounds) scored four and Kirsten McKay (14 points and nine rebounds) turned a steal into a layup to cut the deficit to just five, but North went on a 12-0 run to break the game open.

North was controlling the glass and turning it into points. Maryellen Charette grabbed an offensive rebound and kicked it out to Ella McLaughlin for three. McLaughlin then got into the lane on a Malynka pass, scoring seven of her eight points in the second. Charette (five points and 12 rebounds) got a put-back for two of her own and Corsetti (13 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and five blocks) nailed another from deep.

After going scoreless for three quarters, Sam Faria gave North a much-needed boost in the fourth. She got a layup off a Corsetti feed and then Amelia Leighton got one of her three steals and quick look-ahead to Faria for another easy finish. Faria scored all 11 of her points in the fourth.

North kept answering back. Charette hit Sweeney (19 points) on a cut to the basket for two and Faria added a pair of buckets, one off a Corsetti steal and assist and the other on a pass from Malynka. The Rocketeers were also 8-of-12 as a team in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points total to secure the victory.” [source: hockomocksports.com]
